Work smarter, not harder – admin support that can really make a difference
Some people take to administration like ducks to water, give them minutes or expenses and they’re in seventh heaven. If that’s you and you’re happy doing it, then that’s absolutely great. If it’s not, or you’re running out of time – we can help. We have office-based and virtual assistants who can work like your PA and take the headache away – leaving you to concentrate on adding value to your clients. We practise what we preach and have other people peddling away while we concentrate on our clients – it makes sound business sense and you end up doing what you love and are good at. Rates start at £30 per hour but you only pay for what you use.

Don’t leave yourself exposed, make sure that you have the right insurance in place
A non-executive director has statutory duties and responsibilities – we can help you understand what these are, but you will be responsible and need to make sure that you have the correct insurance is in place, for yourself and for the Company that you work with. There are a number of insurance policies out there, but through trial and error we have found that there is a lot of difference in what they offer. We’re not insurance brokers but we do have some insurers we recommend and we’d be happy to share them with you if you e-mail us as insurance@nonexecacdemy.com
Make sure that you understand potential clients
We can research any potential clients for you and provide a credit check on their business. If you’re going to be joining a business as a director, you need to know what you’re getting into and industry based research can provide you with a good overview and background to the company.
In addition, we can provide credit checks on potential clients and there’s two reasons why you should be credit checking your clients – 1) because you are going to be a director of their business and their financial position should be important to you and 2) because you need to be comfortable that you will get paid. We can’t provide guarantees on that, but we can signal to you that you ought to be asking a few more questions and help you understand what those questions should be. We can also point you in the direction of more specialist advice if required.
You can also sign up for our subscription based targeted newswire service – allowing you to arrive at your meeting with the latest trends in hand.

Are you worried that you don’t really understand a profit and loss?
Then you’re not alone – you’d be amazed at the number of extremely senior people we speak to who confess that they’ve blagged their way through financial reviews previously and are nervous that this will now be exposed in their new non-exec role. You don’t need to understand how to be an accountant, but as a non-exec you need to be reviewing financial performance of the companies you work with. We have a sister company at www.portfoliodirectors.com and as part of what they do, they prepare management accounts for various companies. Out of that we have developed a financial course aimed as senior executives, in which we help you understand the basics and then develop the key performance indicators you should be asking for from the business. That way – you won’t be thrown by a basic question and will be able to review top level information with ease.

They will google you…
If you are looking for a new role, it’s likely that they will research you, so google yourself and check out what comes up – if it’s silly pictures of you on your facebook page, you may want to consider only allowing friends to access it. However, if you want to look more professional, then at the very least you should have a linkedin profile and if you’re looking to really raise your profile (and you have something interesting to say!) then you could set up your own blog. We can help you decide what you need and can provide a suitable blog template if required.
