James Cashmore
My background is in marketing, business development and general management, with over 20 years’ experience in highly successful FTSE 250 companies across a range of
sectors including retail, financial services, travel and member services. From 2000 to 2008 I was a director of Homeserve, the fast growing home emergencies business, with responsibility for consumer marketing and for Homeserve’s business partner relationships with major brands in the utility, retail, manufacturer and financial services sectors.
My areas of expertise include strategy, marketing, customer relationship management, business development, leadership development, start-ups, turnarounds, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and joint ventures, growth, restructuring and change management. Throughout my career I have often been involved with running and supporting smaller and newer divisions, so I understand how it feels to operate in an entrepreneurial environment. I have an MA(Hons) from the University of Cambridge, and an MBA (with distinction) from Warwick Business School.
At Portfolio Directors, I provide marketing advice and support to our clients, as well as co-ordinating our own business development activities. Alongside my work at Portfolio Directors, I am currently working on a major international project on the ethical consumer, as well as being a non-Executive director for two growth businesses – MashSport (a web business bringing the grassroots sporting community together) and Contact4Me (a personal assistance business, founded in the wake of the 7th July bombings in London). I also spend time mentoring and advising leaders in social enterprises and other values-driven businesses.
